Springtime in Milwaukee

Springtime in Milwaukee

It may feel risky to talk about spring in Milwaukee (two words: April snow). So, we’ve learned to approach spring with cautious optimism, but April typically means spring is on the way. Here are a few exciting experiences in the Milwaukee Eastside neighborhood, to celebrate the spring season.

If you haven’t explored the 3rd Street Market Hall, now is the time. From one of the best burgers in town at Dairyland, to homemade pasta at Strega Pasta to fantastic baked goods at Midway Bakery, to pierogies and hot dish (a mid-western comfort food made with ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, and veggies topped with tater tots and cheese) at Hot Dish Pantry. This is more than a food hall; there’s truly something for everyone. When you’re done eating, check out the selfie museum, play shuffleboard, practice your swing in the golf suite, or just chill at the bar in one of the hottest new spots in town.

Love live theater? Skylight Music Theatre is a hidden gem in the heart of the Third Ward. Raisin is the musical version of the play A Raisin in the Sun. It runs April 8-24. The Wisconsin premiere of Dennis DeYoung’s (Yes, Dennis DeYoung, from Styx) The Hunchback of Notre Dame May 20-June 12.

It’s also museum time. If you haven’t seen the iconic Burke Brise Soleil wings open every day, check them out when the Milwaukee Art Museum opens at 10:00, then at noon, and again at closing. While you’re there venture inside to check out the world-class art, have a delicious lunch or snack at the café, and pick up a souvenir in the Museum Shop. Eastcastle Place residents recently had the opportunity to visit the (sold out) Art in Bloom exhibit at MAM.

The best ideas for events, dining, and entertainment around town are available at On Milwaukee. The site features a weekly rundown of activities happening in and around our fair city. Every weekend brings new events and places to discover. Check out this recent story about Milwaukee’s best brunch.

One of Milwaukee’s most loved restaurants is Maxie’s, a favorite with barbecue lovers near and far. The restaurant has been serving some of the city’s best brisket, pulled pork, barbecued chicken, and more since 2007. In honor of its 15th anniversary, Maxie’s is throwing a huge celebration featuring customer favorites and helping to serve the community. “We are going to have a proper Derby Day Party this year, it’ll be our biggest since the one we had back in 2019,” said co-owner Dan Sidner, “We’ve been donating to Hunger Task Force for 15 years and this year we expect to raise our largest donation ever.” Check out Maxie’s @ 15 and mark your calendar for the first weekend in May.
