“There’s some excitement about this. Craft-beer programming is a sign of the times,” said Laura Wengler, director of community life at Eastcastle Place senior living community on Milwaukee’s eastside. Eastcastle Place residents will be participating in a celebration of beer, the beverage that made Milwaukee famous, in advance of National Craft Beer Week which is later in May.
“There are claims about the health benefits of beers, and of course anything that’s healthy is important. But what’s significant about this series of beer-events, is that it’s just plain fun. Craft beer is such a hot trend, and our residents love to be a part of what’s new and happening,” Wengler said. “We talked to the residents about having some beer-themed activity, and based on their interest, the idea morphed into a multi-event elebration.
Eastcastle Place’s craft beer week, which will be May 7th-14th, will include tours of local breweries, beer tastings from some newer and popular local craft breweries, and even their own German Lager beer-brewing which when complete, will be tasted at the community’s roving bar.
“National Craft Beer Week presents a great opportunity for us to pre-party,” said Wengler. “With our own event one week ahead of time, we’re celebrating sooner, rather than later!”
